Who are We?

Malawi Orthopaedic Association (MOA) is a National impartial and a non-political, non-profitable Coordinating, correlating and advisory body on Orthopaedic rehabilitation and other matters related to the neuromuscular and skeletal system. It was established in 1994 as a club by Dr. Kemmy and later got registered in 2003 as an association- Malawi Orthopaedic Association in order to help improve trauma and orthopaedic care in the country. Different strides has been registered in the country in improving orthopaedic and trauma care, the coming in of orthopaedic training school for OCOs is among them. With the going of time, MOA broadened its scope and incorporated other professionals who are on the forefront in making sure that orthopaedic and trauma care is improved in the country. These professions include surgeons and PRO’s. The following names has equally made great contributions in making MOA be where it is today Dr Kemmy, Chris Lavy, Christopher Ngulube and prof Nyengo Mkandawire.

The mission of the Malawi Orthopaedic Association (MOA) is to promote excellence in care for the injured patient, through provision of scientific forums and support of musculoskeletal research and education of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the public.

Value

To ensure a high standard of care for patients with musculoskeletal affections, through diverse continuous medical education, clinical research, advocacy and upholding the best clinical ethics.


  • Collaborating with National and International bodies offering appropriate guidance and advice on Orthopedic rehabilitation and other matters related to the neuromuscular and skeletal system to avoid unwitting duplication of effort and to encourage maximise use of resources.

  • Affecting scientific exchange among its members through publication, correspondence regional or international courses, seminars and symposium.

  • Encourage, promote and assist in co-ordinating research, development, and evaluation activities related to Orthopedics throughout the country.

  • Encourage, support the effects of all those responsible for the education and training of the professions involved and when requested, correlate these activities throughout the country.

  • Encourage, guide, and support the effects of all those responsible for care of patients involving these important fields.

  • To take any other steps necessary for the carrying out of these objectives.
